Tiger Talk! October 15, 2021

Dear School Families,

As we continue celebrating Mary and the Rosary this month, last Thursday we focused on praying the Rosary in school.  All classes took time out of their day to talk about the Rosary and learn how it is used in the Catholic faith.  For many of our new students, this was their first time seeing, using, and praying with a rosary.  Teachers went over the Mysteries and prayers used with the rosary.  I had the pleasure of joining Mr. Limmina and middle school Religion classes to pray the Rosary.  I was impressed with their reverence and understanding as we prayed together.  It is wonderful to see so many young people who are learning and appreciating their faith.

Parent/Teacher ConferencesThank you to every parent who took the time to attend/schedule a parent-teacher conference to discuss your child’s progress this year. It is hard to believe we are halfway through the first trimester. These meetings between parents and teachers are very important. We are partners in your child’s education. It is important to stay in contact with your child’s teacher. Please remember to always contact a teacher first, prior to contacting administration. We will always share your compliment or concern with the teacher before responding.

Parents of Second Graders Please remember to attend the First Penance Meeting this upcoming Monday, 10/18, at 6:15 pm in our school cafeteria (Ballad Room). This meeting is for parents only. Please enter through the back of the school building using the double gray doors on 10th Street (close to Scott Street).

Dress Code School Shoes/Sweaters – Some parents have asked me if children may wear the light brown Sperry type shoes with laces. I definitely approve of the choice for a dressier shoe. The white sneaker idea came from parents as a means of comfort, support, and play. It was helpful at the beginning of the pandemic when we were outside very often. If your child wishes to wear a solid light brown dress shoe, I would welcome that. Solid navy blue sweaters are also an option, as parents have expressed long order delays with the uniform sweater.

  • Hooded sweatshirts are not permitted during the school day due to safety concerns.

Shake Shack Spirit Night – Enjoy some delicious food and support our school at the same time! On Wednesday, 10/20, we will be having a Spirit Night at Shake Shack in the Christiana Fashion Center.  It will run all day from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.  There is outdoor seating available.  You are also able to place a takeout order.  Flyers will be coming home on Monday!

Trunk-or-TreatWe are still trying to pull together a Trunk-or-Treat event in the school parking lot on Friday, October 29th from 5-7:00 pm. Homeroom parents, please be on the lookout for an email about this. Once the event is confirmed, I will let you know asap!

  • 5th Grade has been learning double digit multiplication in Math and about the properties and states of matter in Science.

“Mary is close, she can hear us, she can help us, she is close to every one of us. In God there is room for man and God is close, and Mary, united to God, is very close; she has a heart as great as the heart of God.” ~ Pope Benedict
